The charity was founded in 1980 by Derrick Pereira visiting India, who was presented with a challenge by an Indian nun, Mother Colombiere, of “doing something for the poor”.
Today, through your generous support, we help children in different parts of Asia and Africa. And through children and family assistance programs, we’re giving hope to children and adults affected by extreme poverty. Most of the children we work with are deprived to an unimaginable degree, as there is no education, little food, endemic diseases, high levels of disability, parental rejection and working from as early as 5 years of age or begging/scavenging for their survival. There is no help for them and no hope either, as children’s affairs have no priority. With your help, we can help these poor & needy children grow up healthy and educated.
Help A Poor Child’s headquarters are based in the UK with Recipient branches in India, Sri Lanka and Africa. Other fundraising branches are located in Australia, Canada and USA.
